My Second Day of Summer

After living here for 10 years, I finally got to go to the huge "Sight and Sound" palace in Lancaster to see the production of "Joseph." A friend of mine's mother had extra tickets, so Kirk and I went for free. It was almost like Broadway, and really not as "cheesy" as I thought it would be. I had never thought of Jacob and his twelve sons as a crazy family. But really, they were! I mean brothers plotting the destruction of a brother? Yeah, I'd say that's dysfunctional. But what a lesson those ten brothers learned! And talk about forgiveness. Wow!
It definately made me want to go read the real version.

My First Day of Summer

On this, the first day of my summer vacation, I was going to sleep in, watch the beginning of "Regis and Kelly,"eat a lovely bowl of Special K with berries and enjoy a relaxing and peaceful day with my four children. Afterall, I had spent the last nine and half months "mothering" thirty-three children. What was four compared to that?
Did I really think I would have a peaceful day? No. But a girl can dream, right?
In actuality, a text from my daughter woke me up at 6:25 IN THE MORNING asking me to pick her up from her friend's house. I couldn't fall back to sleep because Kirk was awake and anxiously awaiting for 9:00am to roll around so it would be time to go to the beach with his friend. His friend showed up at 10:30am. Sigh. That was a long wait.
Next on the agenda was to take Jake to the medical aid clinic to get an "extrememly last minute" physical for a 50 miler scout camp next week. Apparently, we went at the exact wrong time because the waiting room was "standing room only." Two hours later we left and the waiting room was empty. Sigh. That was a long wait.
Walmart was next where we bought the "required" items on the camping list which included a mandatory 2nd pair of underwear and an extra two pair of "sox." Yes, it was spelled that way. I had to agree with Jake when he proclaimed he was taking six pair of underwear; however, I'm still wrapping my head around buying brand new underwear to take to CAMP!
Finally, we went home and I took a nap. Is it too early to say I am ready for school to start? Sigh. It's going to be a long wait.

When Chad's Away....

It is a well known fact in the World of Lori, that when Chad is out of town I do not cook.

The following is a journal of where we ate this week.

The week (Tuesday) started off great because everyone agreed that we should pay homage to Chad and go to one of his favorite restaurants. So we went to La Tolteca and had dinner rich in cultural diversity!

Wednesday, Caroline had a soccer game (in which she was a starter by the way) and Jake had a golf game (which their team won), all of which took place in the rain. It was decided that since we were being the All-American family with sports and all, that we would go to an All-American sort of restaurant. Thus began the down hill trend. In a week where we were free to go to any fast free dinning we wanted, we went to this place.....AGAIN. However, it is because I forgot that I had offered to take dinner to a family with a new baby. So we quickly went through the drive thru to get dinner for the starving soccer star...

Then we went here to pick up two pizzas to take to the starving, sleep deprived family who happened to have pizza brought to them the night before by another time deprived family like us, no doubt!

Then back to here to get dinner for Jake and Kirk who waited patiently for their dinner to come. (No need to mention that they could have eaten something at home, but that is beside the point!)

Finally, on Friday, I was determined to go here because I couldn't stand "you know where" anymore. The kids didn't have a say on "where" but were happy to tell me "what" they wanted. Saturday, we had a nice bowl of cereal with milk (and it was heaven) for breakfast and then went here for lunch before settling down for two sessions of conference. It was heavenly, and personally, I could have eaten here all week long!
Saturday night, we went to McDonalds yet again and ate more of these... I think I'm going to be sick just thinking about it.
Today, I am looking forward to tuna sandwiches and tomoto soup. As always, I am ready for Chad to come home so we can get back to some home cooked meals...at least until Tuesday!

Home Alone!

My dear husband took the kids to Walmart for his annual "It's time to buy Mom's presents" outing this morning. I'm at home, just Skipper and me, and I can't decide what to do first. Do I sleep? No, they'll be back before I know it. Do I wrap presents? No, they'll walk in any minute. Do I clean the house? No, I didn't mess it up, they did. Do I grade papers? Heck no, it's too early. Do I put up a new post on my forever forgotton blog? Check.

Hmm. I wonder what they are getting me at Walmart.
